ORintelligence Product Development Case Study

Client:

ORintelligence
Houston, TX

ORintelligence’s Optimization System is a novel artificial intelligence (AI) driven platform that improves clinical workflow outcomes through greater patient status visibility, data acquisition/awareness, AI-driven recommendations, and staff awareness.

Need:

Conduct a workflow analysis of the Borland Groover Southside in Jacksonville, Florida to define how users were conducting their tasks within a clinic setting and understand how the design of the facility and interaction with technology impacted their ability to efficiently perform duties and contributed to medical and organizational risk. This assessment significantly contributed to ORintelligence’s strategic plan for integrating their Optimization System in similar clinics to best support workflow and address areas of risk.

Services Provided:

Sophic designed and implemented an evaluation plan at an active clinical location to document workflows and ascertain the functionality of the AI platform with respect to healthcare worker compliance and efficiency metrics.

Key objectives evaluated were: documenting digital and physical workflows with and without the AI platform, determination of the role of the target use environments, identify conditions when performance of AI-assisted workflows demonstrated improvement over nominal, identify challenges associated with use of the AI platform including graphical user interface, timing and content of data delivery to key workers, physical positioning of interface locations (ex. scanners or displays) during the execution of the workflow, as well as areas of conflict between facility design, user workflow and technology integration.

Outcomes:

Sophic made several short- and long-term design and facility centric implementation recommendations that informed a redesign of the digital interfaces, interface locations, transition from paper and digital to fully digital and inclusion of automation, and introduced automated patient tracking considerations to better optimize the use of the facilities to reduce errors and patient risk. The evaluation and recommendations were provided to the client and under consideration for re-design of the platform interface and revision of workflow implementation strategy.
